Over the years we have reviewed thousands of photos to bring you the finest work from some of the Bay Area's top sports photographers. Each week during the Coronavirus-induced sports lull we will bring you one of our favorites.
Soon to return? San Francisco Giants All-Star catcher Buster Posey and a Chevron car logo are slated to reappear at Oracle Park in late July. The Giants first game will be announced on Monday but may be scheduled for July 23 against the Los Angeles Dodgers in a nationally televised game at Dodgers Stadium. But Posey's return is questionable, as he remains undecided if he will play in the 2020 season, electing to step aside due to Coronavirus concerns.

Baseball Is Back!
Commissioner Rob Manfred has implemented a 60-game schedule for the modified 2020 MLB season, now scheduled to hold its highly anticipated Opening Day on July 23 or 24 and run till September 27. It will then resume its standard playoff structure. Baseball returns with a few notable adjustments, starting with the schedule. Teams will play in their home ballparks, as opposed to a neutral field solution, but matchups will feature regional-based play. Each team will play 40 games in its own division and 20 games against interleague opponents within their geographical proximity. Both leagues will feature the designated hitter, officially bringing the DH to the National League for the first time outside of interleague play. There will be an August 31 trade deadline, and the season will begin with 30-man rosters. Most other modifications are related to health and safety, such as daily testing and special COVID-related injured lists that provide max flexibility for return.
This Day in Sports -- June 30, 2019
San Francisco Giants 10, Arizona Diamondbacks 4
San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Madison Bumgarner was at the peak of his powers on Sunday afternoon, June 30, as he struck out nine Arizona Diamondback batters and allowed just one run over seven innings. Bumgarner was supported offensively by left fielder Kevin Pillar, who went 4-for-5 and drove in five runs in a 10-4 demolishing of Arizona. Above, Giants starter Madison Bumgarner smiles on the mound prior to the start of the game. (A free agent  after the season, MadBum signed a five-year, $85 million contract with the Diamondbacks.) Who Am I?
San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Dee Ford
San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Dee Ford was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft and played his college football at Auburn. In March of 2019 the Chiefs agreed to a trade sending Ford to the 49ers in exchange for a second-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Ford signed a five-year contract with the Niners worth $87.5 million and made his debut in the 2019 season-opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, sacking QB Jameis Winston once in the 31–17 road victory. Ford finished 2019 with 14 tackles and 6.5 sacks in 11 games and two starts. In the Super Bowl, Ford recorded two tackles against his former team.
